I Stopped Going To Church: Coming Full Circle

Jeremiah 29:11-13 I alone know the plans I have for you, plans to bring you prosperity and not disaster, plans to bring about the future you hope for.   Then you will call to me. You will come and pray to me, and I will answer you.  You will seek me, and you will find me because you will seek me with all your heart.

Philippians 1:6 And so I am sure that God, who began this good work in you, will carry it on until it is finished on the Day of Christ Jesus.

By September of this year, I had gotten into a nice grove in my life. I was content with the choices I had been making, and I was connecting with people more and not shutting them out as I had been doing. The only problem, I wasn’t reading the Bible as often as I would have wanted to. About the same time, the Bible App on my phone updated and started sending me push notifications with the “Verse of the day”. The first time it happened, I opened it, quickly read the verse and proceeded with my day. It happened again the next day, but this time when I opened it, the first thing I saw was, “Good Morning Gacoki. You have connected with God’s Word for 2 days in a row!” I smiled, rolled my eyes, and proceeded with my day. On the 7th day, I forgot to open the notification so when I did it on day 8, I didn’t get the “kudos” for consistency. I was surprised that I actually felt bad about that, but I decided to accept the challenge and see how much of a streak I could get.

At first, I would only open the verse of the day, but as the days went by, I felt I needed to do more. I remembered that my mom had built the habit of reading a chapter of Proverbs a day. There are 31 chapters in Proverbs, so if you read one every day, you’ll get through the book in a month. On October 1st, I started with Proverbs Chapter 1. To keep myself accountable, I decided I would share at least one verse of the chapter of the day on my social media pages. Now I was connecting with God’s Word everyday and also connecting with Social Media.

And that’s how I found Clear Path. I was scrolling through Facebook, laughing at memes and hitting “like” on things when I saw an event come up on my page. It was called “Church Reimagined” and it immediately caught my attention. On reading the description, I knew I had to go to this event. Here’s a part of what it said:

“Disengaged with church? Do you want to be a part of reimagining what church looks like? We would like to invite you to REIMAGINE WITH US what a community of Jesus followers could look like in Dallas, TX!
On Wednesday, November 1, we’re gathering around the table where we will be discussing how our community is intentionally centering our lifestyles around friendship with God, living family life together, and loving our neighbors.”

I went to the event on November 1st. And then I went to service that Sunday and I have been gathering with this community of brethren ever since. Finding this church was 100% divine intervention. I am so overwhelmed with what God is doing in The Church today, and I feel so blessed to be a part of it. I know that this is just the beginning of the next phase of my journey with God. I will be sharing more with you about Clear Path and my personal walk as I continue to learn and reimagine. In the meantime, I’d like to share Clear Path’s online platform where you can read testimonials from people who are also on this journey of reimagining Church: www.clearpath.life

Isaiah 43:18-19 But the LORD says, “Do not cling to events of the past or dwell on what happened long ago. Watch for the new thing I am going to do. It is happening already — you can see it now! I will make a road through the wilderness and give you streams of water there.
